Sorry for being a few days late but...
Hooboy has it been a week.
As some of you may have seen on Butter’s Instagram, I was traveling last week to visit family. In particular a family member who has had health issues for the past year. They ended up passing while I was in town, which meant a lot of time was spent putting together the service.
I did at one point have time to sit and get some computer work done during my trip. And honestly welcomed the distraction. But when I opened my laptop, the screen did not turn on.
After some googling and a diagnosis from a local tech guy, it was confirmed that the cord between the motherboard and the LCD screen is garbled. A known issue with the model.
The problem is, that part is impossible to buy. You can find it on aliexpress and that’s about it. I will be emailing Razer this week, but I do not have high hopes since I’m out of warranty.
There are some things I can make happen with just my phone, but I do not have a mobile workflow for audio editing and drafting newsletters hence the lack of a newsletter yesterday and what will be an upcoming gap in podcast posting.
However, if I am one thing for certain that would be stubborn, so I ended up spending my plane ride home writing a Butter article draft by hand. In some ways it made the process more challenging, pulling quotes etc. But on the flip side, I found that some of the stiffness I’ve struggled with these last few issues melted away in the ink of the pen.
A fun fact: I wrote all of the articles for the first issue of Butter by hand. I also manually transcribed them. And I can confirm there are some things that are better to let technology handle.
The good news is that me writing this means I have received my external monitor and can return to the world of the digital, hallelujah. My desk is only slightly a mess from this set up.
So again, I would like to apologize for not being able to bring you an essay this week. I even had a topic I was super excited to dive into, but the universe had other plans I suppose. As always thank you for your support and patience, I’m excited to bring you more writing in the coming week.

Ketchum, Idaho. Crested Butte, Colorado. Revelstoke, British Columbia (B.C.). For a snow sports enthusiast, these tiny towns invoke stunning vistas of towering mountains and pillows of fluffy snow. A place where young athletes’ dreams of never ending winter can come true. At least, that’s the picture towns like Revelstoke paint. Of the nearly 8,500 people living in the shadow of Mt. Begbie, which communities does that mountain culture really serve?
As a gay man, skier and director Ryan Collins often felt that his queer identity didn’t mesh with the world of outdoor sports. He was left to wonder what exactly made him feel so uncomfortable. Collins sought to unearth the source of this discomfort in his debut film People Like Us.
